I understand that choosing a memorial keepsake for your beloved pet is a deeply personal decision.

Here, I aim to answer your most common questions about our keepsakes. My goal is to provide clarity and peace of mind, guiding you through every step of creating a lasting tribute.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a fur keepsake made while my pet is still living?

Absolutely. Keepsakes can be a celebration of the love and life you’re sharing  right now.

Many people choose to create a piece using fur from a puppy’s or kittens first groom, during your pets "golden years" or a small trim at a special milestone.

How can I be sure it's really my pet's fur or ashes?

I understand this is a primary concern.

At Pet Keepsakes, I implement a strict, individualised tracking system from the moment your pet's fur or ashes arrive until your finished keepsake is dispatched.

Each order is handled separately, ensuring complete integrity and peace of mind that your keepsake contains only your beloved pet's inclusions.

How do I collect my pet's fur if they are being euathanised?

If you feel comfortable, you can ask your vet to trim a small amount of fur for you during the appointment. Most veterinary clinics are very understanding and are happy to help with this.

Alternatively, you may wish to trim a small section of fur yourself beforehand, ideally from an area that won’t be noticeable (such as the chest, back, or behind the ear).

How do I send my pet's fur or ashes safely?

Once you have placed your order, please enclose your pets fur and/or ashes in a safe and secure manner such as a Ziploc bag for ashes and an envelope or Ziploc bag for fur.  I recommend using a tracked shipping service.

Please Contact me via the contact form if you plan on sending your Fur or Ashes and I will reply with the address in which to send them to.

I offer a Keepsake Collection Kit which includes packaging for your precious inclusions. Also included is a return shipping bag to get them safely to me so I can begin crafting your keepsake.

While every care is taken once materials arrive with me, I cannot accept responsibility for items lost or damaged during postal transit.

How long does it take?

The creation process typically takes up to 2 weeks from when I receive your inclusions, and I will keep you updated throughout.

How much fur or ash is needed?

Only a small amount is needed for jewellery - about half a teaspoon of ash and a good pinch of fur the size of a $2 coin.

For ornaments - about a palm size of fur (Fur will compact in resin)

Because these materials are deeply meaningful and irreplaceable, I kindly ask that you retain the majority at home and send only the small amount requested.

Keeping the majority safely with you ensures you always have some remaining, just in case.

What happens to the fur and ash you don't use?

All inclusions left over after your piece is completed will be returned to you.

Is your jewellery suitable for sensitive skin?

Stainless steel is generally considered hypoallergenic and suitable for most with  sensitive skin.

Stainless steel is durable, resistant to tarnishing, and designed for comfortable everyday wear.

What about gold-plated pieces?

Gold-plated features a layer of gold over stainless steel. The base metal is hypoallergenic; however, as with all plated jewellery, sensitivity can vary from person to person.

Can you drop off my completed Keepsake to my Vet or Groomer?

If you have placed your order through your Vet or Groomer, I will return your order safely to your Veterinary clinic/ Groomer for you to collect.
